AKA: Why I Own Everything on Vinyl and Every Week is a New Adventure in Sound

As many of you know, I have a LOT of vinyl records. Every week is a new adventure in sound. I sometimes get into phases where I’m hungry for a certain style of music and can’t get enough, which leads to me making a number of online purchases. Sometimes I cruise through the list of upcoming releases and pre-order a ton of albums, then lose my mind waiting for them to arrive, haha. Does this ever happen to you?

ANYWAY.. all this to say that I have quite a lot of records across a very, very broad range of musical styles and genres. If it ended up on my radar and I enjoyed it, then I probably have it, LOL! I’d like to share something about them with you when they arrive. Today’s post is really just an introduction to that idea.

Now, here’s the thing about owning your music physically. I enjoy streaming as much as the next person, but I refuse to let some random company decide what my collection looks like. The music available today may not be available tomorrow if licensing agreements expire or change, so if I like it, I own a physical copy that no one can take away from me. The wisdom of this was recently demonstrated when a number of friends realised that Saint Etienne’s 2017 album “Home Counties” had suddenly disappeared from their streaming service of choice. Own your music, people.

So, what’s arrived lately? Aside from gorgeous 180gr reissues of White Zombie’s “Astro Creep 2000” and “La Sexorcisto”, I’ve also pre-ordered two Spice Girls reissues which should arrive early next month (and I am positively giddy with excitement!). You never know what will be spinning at my house (though it will almost exclusively be on vinyl). Every week is a new adventure in sound.
