September 29th, 2026 – Chiayi Youth Festival Event was a huge success!
Tonight was a good one. Spaces were limited and had to be booked online, and every last seat was reserved! About 20 people crowded into the shop for the Chiayi Youth Festival event.
We talked about how to look after vinyl (and how not to), traded storage tricks, and then played a poorly mastered LP against an expertly mastered one. Being told there’s a difference is one thing. Hearing it is another.
The playlist leaned on a few classics: Tsai Chin’s “Ni De Yan Shen”, Chi Yu’s “Olive Tree”, Kyu Sakamoto’s “Ue o Muite Arukou” and Frank Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night”. We also squeezed in more than a few recent tunes, including perennial Music Box favourite “Pink Venom” by BLACKPINK, Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” and Wu Bai’s 樹枝孤鳥 (Lone Bird on a Branch).
Keeping everyone going was a 10 litre urn of iced tea. I assumed it might last the night, and shockingly, it was completely gone by the end. I tried it myself and it was damn good tea.
Huge thanks to my friend Jethro, who kept things running and helped anyone who needed anything. He’s new to vinyl himself, and was a big help anyway.
The event officially ended at 8PM, but a handful of us stayed until almost 9:30 with the music still going, and everyone was mingling like old friends. I made a lot of new friends tonight, and I think the guests did too. I’ll admit I was nervous going in, but I’m really glad I bit the bullet and went for it.

September 2026 — Chiayi Youth Festival Event
I’m really excited to announce that Music Box will be hosting an event for the 6th annual Chiayi Youth Festival this year! This year’s theme is “offline romance”! Join us at the shop on Tuesday, September 29th from 18:00 to 20:00.
Join me at Music Box Vinyl Café, 58 Minguo Rd, Chiayi City, for an evening built around vinyl. There will be a short presentation on the format, followed by some real turntable time! Come curious or come nostalgic, I’ll have a record spinning either way. I’ll even try to fill requests if there’s time (you could say we’ll play it by ear). Looking forward to seeing you there!
Space is really limited (maximum 20 people), so please confirm your spot in advance with the organizers: Chiayi Youth Festival.
This event will be in Chinese, but everyone is welcome to attend!
