Welcome to Music Box TW
Fall in love with vinyl. Rediscover music.
Discover your next favourite artist.
Music Box is a vinyl record shop and café tucked away in Chiayi City. I stock records, pour coffee, and spend most of my time helping people meet their next favourite artist.
Open Saturday and Sunday, 3PM to 9PM… come say hello
What Music Box Stocks
I’m not trying to stock records that impress people, or that nobody has heard of. I’m trying to stock records that have a reason to exist. I want a customer to pick up a record and think: “Of course Music Box has this.” Not because it’s rare or expensive, but because it belongs here, as something to be discovered and cherished. Every record should earn its place on the shelf… Popularity and obscurity are irrelevant. An artist’s passion for their art is everything, as is having a unique musical identity.
What Music Box Is Trying to Be
Music Box isn’t trying to become the biggest record store… nevermind that’s not my dream, there’s no way it could compete on that level anyway, haha. Music Box is trying to become the most thoughtfully curated record store. One that helps connect you to the music you didn’t know you needed, with an in-store listening library that will likely accommodate most pop and rock requests, and a solid track record for tracking down special requests for purchase.
What You’ll Find
The Music Box in-store library includes a lot of rock, pop, and R&B, plus many of their subgenres, from the 1950s up to some of the most modern releases. In fact, I fill gaps in the collection all the time! That said, however, you won’t find much in the way of jazz, classical, or hip hop here. I want to be up front about that. Those styles encompass whole worlds of their own and they aren’t ones I’m familiar enough with to be comfortable recommending.
French Dance Music, German Techno, and Japanese folk rock on the other hand? Hell yeah! Bring it on, haha! Language doesn’t matter if the music itself speaks to you. English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, Portuguese, Spanish… all are represented on Music Box shelves to some degree. Sometimes, words just get in the way of the artist’s intention, right?
I guess what I’m trying to say is that a visit to my shop should feel like a Magical Mystery Tour: you never know what you’re going to get, but it’s just what you needed.
Reach Out (I’ll Be There)
Welcome to Music Box! Feel free to poke around the website and see what’s going on. There are oodles of posts about different kinds of music… something will definitely catch your ear!
And remember, I’m always available if you need help finding something, or just want a recommendation. I’ll always do my best to track down whatever record you need. 867-5309 was unavailable, so I have no phone number, but you can send me a message through our contact page, or via any one of our social channels. I’d love to hear from you!
